Our History

Bismarck Animal Clinic and Hospital was established by Dr. Jerry Buchholz in 1979. Bismarck Animal Clinic and Hospital was the first veterinary clinic in Bismarck, and also the state’s first exclusive small animal practice west of Fargo. Bismarck Animal Clinic and Hospital has been AAHA accredited since 1992.

Dr. Jerry Buchholz served as a pioneer and leader within the Bismarck/Mandan veterinary profession and within the community. Certainly, many residents and their pets have benefited from Dr. Buchholz’s compassion, kindness, and expertise. Dr. Buchholz is a lifetime member of AAHA, AVMA, and NDVMA. He is a past president of the North Dakota Veterinary Medical Association and has served several terms as president for the North Dakota Board of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Buchholz wrote informational columns for Dakota Country Magazine for several years, promoting veterinary medicine and educating the public on pet health care.
